Board 11 Wimborne Martin Buse 1510 ish

A very close match going down to the last game and last few seconds on Robert Powell's clock who unfortunately lost on time in what was a complicated position , he had a 1 piece advantage , but John Bowley had 2 Rooks pointing at his opponents King , so it may have gone either way if time had permitted -
All the players I spoke to had enjoyed competitive and interesting games . The only game I saw close up was the board next to me where John Cordner launched a strong attack on the White King which resulted in a large loss of material or Mate . Thanks to Highcliffe and Richard for bringing such a large Team to Wimborne for an enjoyable evening . The Gamble to play in the Garden and hope for luck with the Rain actually worked too ! gh

Hi Everyone, the summer league has proved to be an overwhelming success, as the non playing captain I had the opportunity to talk to the locals who were showing a lot of interest as they did at the spyglass and the Walkford. Chess is a fantastic game and we have the chance to build on all the achievements of the last 7 decades. The match last night was a lot of fun with the result unclear as it seesawed throughout the evening. I think Highcliffe could have won 4 other games ,Dan was an exchange up and hung a rook, Tom two pawns up Robert a knight up and Tim an exchange up. That said Wimborne defended well .Peter could have won on time as Tim had only 10 seconds left but that is not Peter's way and he took the draw. Chess was the winner.
