A very pleasant night of chess. First to finish was board 5 with Megan notching another victory. I didn't see any of the game, but was aware that she had been in very good form in winning the Minor at the Hampshire championship and it is obviously continuing. Next to finish was Richard winning for Ringwood of board 3 to level the match. The bit I saw of this was typical Richard - mating his opponent's king in the middle of the board. He doesn't seem to ever play dull grinds :-) On board 4 it was a tipsy game, where, form the side lines I though Ben was much better and was then losing. Both players contributed to a fighting draw which ended with bare kings. I'd looked a little at board 1 during the early evening and I felt Peter had the initiative but Jamie was defending impressively. Eventually, Peter's attack prevailed ensuring Ringwood would at least share the spoils. Board 2 was the last to finish with both players having to essentially play on the increment. Graham managed a draw, but the suggestion was his opponent had missed a chance during time trouble. Overall the match was very tight from the get-go and we look forward to the return.A few of the matches could…
A few of the matches could have gone either way, but congratulations to Ringwood- who were again generous hosts- for prevailing.
