A good win for Poulton with both teams welcoming new players, Andrew Thornley for Preston and H. Grundy for Poulton. On 4 Andrew gained the upper hand and seemed good for at least a draw but a late oversight allowed wily veteran Ken to grab the win. On 2 a lively game gradually turned in white`s favour and led to the win of a piece. On 1 white`s Morra put black in an awkward position from the outset and Ben exploited the tactical possibilities with a classy finish. On 3 with kings on opposite flanks both sides had attacking chances but neither prevailed and a draw was agreed.
