A very close match. Newton Abbot were 2-0 up before Stover’s board 4 produced a sudden checkmate in a lost position and then Oliver on board 1 missed wins in a Q +P v Q ending because of time shortage. Ironically had we been using the increment system he would certainly have found the way to force a Queen exchange in a favourable situation! Trefor Thynne ( Stover School coach)
