An exciting match that went right down to the bell; Martin and Madara after just under three hours were left with king vs king. Thanks to the hosts for a sporting match played in a convivial spirit. Before the match started Chris Marshall presented the Lewisham Club with the first edition of a chess book he had been given some 35 years ago by Lewisham stalwart, the late Fred Knight. 'The Chess Career of Rudolf Spielmann 1903-1926' edited by Jack L Spence (Chicago 1961). He was presented with a book by Prof. Max Euwe in exchange.
