Double edged
An entertaining evening of chess against a strong Wimborne team.
I always felt I had the harder game to play against Eddie and I offered a draw when I thought we stood well on the other boards. Eddie agreed as it appeared that any push for an advantage would give me some chances.
Next to finish was Robert, always seemed to be more or less equal and Robert played a rock solid game.
Ian and Dad was where the fireworks were as an interesting opening leant toward white having 2 knights vs a rook and a pawn. The knights were active so white stood better but the advantage faded slightly and a draw offer was accepted.
This led us to the last game, Bruce vs Allan looked relatively equal throughout, until a couple trades left Allan with doubled b-pawns and slightly more passive in a rook and pawn ending. It seemed from the sidelines as if it would be a difficult win but Brucey managed to take the water from that stone and bring home a win.
Thank you to Wimborne for the games and warm welcome in a lovely new venue and best of luck for the rest of the season!
Not much to add from Adam's…
Not much to add from Adam's comments just to say I was lucky to draw and Bruce played the end game really well against Allan for a deserved win for Highcliffe.
