A closely fought match played in a good spirit. A very early draw between Graham Willetts and Jon Catchpole on board 4 followed by another draw on board 2 between Eddie Barker and James Forster probably gave Southbourne the slight edge as they had the White pieces on the 2 remaining boards. Ian Clark seemed to be doing ok on top board to hold the balance but lashed out on the queen side which gave White some chances and this advantage was nurtured to an endgame and then converted. Perhaps the most exciting match was on board 3 between Mark Littleton and Russ Pegg with both players going for it, lots of pieces everywhere and mayhem at the chess board! Just when it seemed that Mark might be cashing in, Russ found some good moves to maintain the balance and with both players extremely short of time in a complex position a draw was agreed.
