Highcliffe A were quickly out of the blocks as after 30 minutes, they were significantly better on boards 3 and 4. However, after one hour's play both of these matches were turning. A draw on the top 2 boards soon after meant that Highcliffe A were struggling to hold the match as board 4 was soon winning for Southbourne B and this was soon wrapped up by excellent play from Michael. On board 3 Ken could not hold the endgame of his Rook and 2 pawns versus Russell's very active 2 knights. The 3-1 result means, subject to a 4-0 loss by Poole B in its final match against Southbourne A, Highcliffe A will be relegated. Many thanks to the Highcliffe club members for their kind hospitality.
