A close match and at one stage it looked like it was going to be a win for the home team. However, there was a bizarre start, as at 7.30pm all the Southbourne players were all sat down at their boards, but there were no home opponents sat opposite. It would appear there was a full scale search party going on for Poole A's top board player! At around 7.40pm, all the Poole A players suddenly appeared, closely followed by the Royal British Legion musical band team which was practising in the room next door! There was a relatively early draw on board 3 as Russ managed to find a way to repeat the position otherwise he may have stood worse. The tide turned on the top 2 boards. On board 1, it appeared that Martin's hedgehog type set up was perfect as it was frustrating Declan but as in the case of many of his games, Declan managed to exert time pressure on his opponent and create enough threats in the position to cause an error. On board 2 Richard appeared to be 2 safe pawns to the good but he hadn't developed any of his kingside and his King was stuck in the centre. Martin managed to create just enough play and pressure for Richard to make a mistake and allow the Black Q, R and N to infiltrate. Board 4 was the last game to finish and it appeared to be a comfortable win for John. Many thanks to the Poole players for their friendly hospitality.

Apologies for the delayed start & the rounding up of our Martin but at least the band was ready to entertain! The report sounded very fair and accurate so well done Southbourne on the night,. I am sorry I could not attend for health reasons.
