Due to New Milton struggling to put forward a team for last night's fixture, rather than postponing it to another evening, it was agreed via the controller and two match captains the match would go ahead consisting of three boards only. Although being marginally out-graded we produced a fine performance to claim the spoils. This was mainly due to Simon on board two who had the game of his life to pull off a victory that at one stage looked out of his grasp. Right from the outset he was on the back foot with John, his opponent, grouping several pieces in Simon's half pinning him back. Such was the pressure it seemed only a matter of time before the inevitable would happen. However, with dogged defending, and the dual advance of Simon's rook and knight pawns, suddenly there was light at the end of the tunnel. With John sliding into increasing time trouble and also missing a winning combination it was Simon who prevailed to record a great win. Many thanks Wimbourne for your hospitality and look forward to the reverse fixture next year.
