Southbourne were a player short, probably due to the inclement weather. Board 1 sacrificed a Bishop and a long defence tussle ended with a home win. Board 2 was a slow strangle with an overpowering Kings Gambit. Board 4 introduced a new Southbourne player on his first league outing and unfortunately he fell into a well executed trap that snared the queen early in the match. The score was some compensation for the loss at Southbourne earlier in the season and was Highcliffe's first win of the season, which lifts us off the bottom of the league for the first time. But it may be too late to stage a late title challenge!!!
