A close competitive match

A good competitive close match to decide which team comes 2nd in the league. There were 2 early draws followed by 2 hard fought games. Well played Mark for his win against Russ. It looked like an almost flawless game. Jamie built up an irresistible kingside attack which proved decisive. The draw favoured Southbourne A as it just held onto 2nd place. Ian advises this was Wimborne A's first home point of season but they had scored 9 points away from home! It was also Southbourne A's 3rd consecutive draw! Jamie is to be congratulated for winning the Brien Urry Cup (outright) for the best individual score in the 1st division with a score of 7.5pts out of 9 games. With thanks to the Wimborne club for the kind hospitality and hot drinks during the evening.

A close match with a couple

A close match with a couple of early draws. On board 3 under half an hour and board1 I thought I was worse and Martin thought he was worse!. Russ offered an optimistic draw offer but Mark was clearly better and final nail in coffin was sacrifice of queen and was shortly all over. Jamie played an aggressive kingside attack with black and Bill could not find a way out so congrats to Jamie for best performance in Division 1. Thanks to Wimborne players for the season where we will have to improve our home performances ( especially the captain ! ).
