Dorset League - Weymouth A vs Highcliffe A

On paper this should have been relatively straight forward, but it didn't play out that way and I wasn't sure Weymouth were even going to draw the match. Kevin's kingside attack looked very premature and never looked like succeeding. Bruce went on to convert comfortably. Andrej played a nice game getting the advantage from the opening, the middle game position was a little wild, but favoured black to the extent that white had to lash out on the kingside with a pawn advance. With the situation looking bad on boards 1 and 4 and Andrej being short of time, his game became critical. He missed the mate in two around and his watching captain aged significantly. Fortunately he saw it on the next move. Steve's game on board 4 looked bad throughout but he managed to keep some pieces on the board and his opponent eventually made an error and lost a piece. A draw was agreed, and it may well be the correct result but would have been interesting to see the endgame played out. Thanks to Wimborne for letting us share their facilities and to all for an enjoyable evening.
