David was the first to finish. He touched the wrong piece and had to move it resulting in him resigning. John harris was the next to finish. After a struggle to get through the centre, Alan decided that a King side attack was the way forward. Moving his g & H pawns down the board proved a disaster as it exposed his king too much. After much thought and a shortage of time Alan resigned bringing the score to 1 all. Next to finish was Chris. John managed to get 2 pawns ahead and this proved too much for Chris. With 2 very active bishops against 2 knights, John exchanged off enabeling him to get a night for a pawn and was then able to force a pawn down to a queening position. Chris then resigned. Paul was a late finisher. he struggled on manfully as he could see that the team needed a win from him in order to draw the match. But graham had some very strong bishops which hampered Paul. Paul did not move his queen side bishop and rook until very late in the game and was effectively playing with much reduced forces and the outcome was that an extra pawn went through to queen and Paul resigned.

A closer match than the score

A closer match than the score suggest, with 2 games even throughout, thanks to John Harris for the inset training on setting clocks.
