A very interesting match with

A very interesting match with Southbourne bringing in the "reserve" to play on top board and Martin playing on board 4 almost reversing the rating of the team. David on top board played a very strong game and Russell did not manage to castle and was losing a piece when deciding to resign. On 2 was a very cagey game and eventually a draw was agreed when was going to be opposite colour bishops with a few extra pieces each as well. On 4 was an exciting game with Eddie pressing on kingside but could not make further progress and when queens came off a draw was eventually agreed. Board 3 saw some fireworks with Steven having all the threats and Ian's king being rather open to attack. Ian gave up the exchange for an extra pawn and a strong knight and withstood a long period ( about 25 moves ) on increments to salvage a draw. The result being a close win for Wimborne and at halfway stage of season all to play for.

A close match

Both teams fielded a new player on top board in their teams in this division, Unfortunately for Southbourne the top board player for Wimborne was super good and he won very quickly! Southbourne had the edge on all the other boards and may have won on boards 3 and 4 but the Wimborne players found good moves to hold the draws. Thanks to the Wimborne club for the kind hospitality including hot drinks half way through.
