Avery close match despite the default ( more later ) I had used Andy Hewitt P rating based on his ganes this year rather than original 1200 local grade othger wise we would have won ! Sam Brewer did not turn up on board 6 despite saying 2 days before he would be there. Still waiting for explanation. The match was still exciting despite the default with board 5 finishing first. Mike won a very close game with having the extra passed pawn in rook and pawn ending. Alan and Tim played each other again and Alan had a very comfortable game but could not make enough progress so draw was agreed. Top board was very exciting with Mike playing the elephant gambit and became very double edged with both having winning chances but eventually came down to a drawn rook and pawn ending. Stephen seemed to be under pressure but was allowed a king side attack that ending up forcing white to give up to much material to stop so an excellent win for Stephen making for a tense finish with Wimborne needing to win final game. Stuart and Dragi ended up playing a knight and pawn ending where Stuart was offered a draw but advised by captain to play on as he needed to win ! Stuart tried really hard but could not break through and a draw was agreed. Well done to Poole and all the best in next round.
