A fantastic night of contest. Board 2 was the first game to finish. Black won a rook and then set about converting it. Next was board 1, with black first finding equality and then overall positional dominance then converted. This left the final two boards, with board 3 Bournemouth up a piece and the bottom board looking quite lifeless and even. A tactical draw was offered and taken. Now it was up to me to convert. I then blundered a pawn with check and so it was two pawns for a piece, with one being a pass pawn. I then perhaps foolishly exchanged down thinking i had enough time only to be completely outplayed with terrifying pawns getting in my face. Sue shall now forever be know as Sue the Merciful as she offered me a draw to which i not only bit her hand off, but her whole arm. 2-2 was the final score and a great game all around.

Great evening of chess

four exciting games played this evening, Robert played a storming attacking game and was first to finish with a win for Highcliffe, James levelled things by exploiting a clever combination to break through my pawn defence. Roger and Stefan agreed a draw in a Queen and pawn endgame, and Susan played a blinder, coming back from a piece down to nearly win the decider in a 6 pawns vs bishop and 4 pawn endgame. A draw was a fair result, thanks to Bournemouth for hosting a fine evening of chess.
