Leo played the white pieces against John, and when when I was playing my 10th move, Leo and John were already well into a king and pawn endgame which Leo came out as the Victor. Well done Leo and John. 1-0 to Poole. I had a slightly better position by Anton's own admission but needless to say when I missed a bishop pinning my queen to my king with no way out, I was lost and resigned. Good Game Anton, well done. 1-1. Mike was offered a draw by David. After deliberating for a few moments, Mike shook hands. Both players decided to play the game out, and it ended it a drawn position despite white a pawn up. Well done to both. 1.5-1.5. The match was to be decided on board 3. Tony found a winning move with a strong knight outpost on f4. Tactics emerged all over the board with exposed kings. Tony came out on top in an exciting crescendo to a tense, hard fought battle. Well done Tony and well played Chris. 2.5-1.5. Thank you Southbourne, a pleasure as always.

Thanks

Thanks for a good evening's chess. With the grades fairly close it was always going to be a battle.
