Despite the final scoreline the match was very close throughout. The first action took place on board 3 with an aggressive attack from Steevens that looked very scary but Bill navigated all the complications to have two pieces for a rook and a pawn. Bill took a conservative draw after looking at the other boards as it was still very complicated. Board 1 and 2 looked too complicated for me, but eventually Paolo and James managed to pull out the win. The final game to finish was between John and me. John won the opening and then promptly won the middle game. I decided to sac my rook for a bishop because it was a monster and hoped my pawn on f6 and his king stuck on h8 would be enough compensation. It wasnt objectively, but you have to hope. This then went down to knight and 5 versus rook and 5 and in time trouble I managed to create a winning passed pawn that snatched the game. 3.5-0.5 did not tell the story, but sometimes that is how it goes.
