In what is the biggest match of the season, both captains made sure they had the strongest teams possible. I made sure to have a reserve ready to come and play as I had not heard back from my board 2. I called my reserve to come play only to then get a message saying my original player was coming. I called my reserve and told him to stop before he came all the way over. My board 2 then did not turn up... on the most important match of the season! Aaaaaaaah! Anyway rant over. This left Bournemouth having to fight hard to salvage the match after losing a key player. Dennis' game quickly dissolved into an opposite coloured bishop endgame that required several significant mistakes to lose. Dennis managed to apply the pressure to win. At this point I am up a pawn on my board, however an attack is brewing against my king. On board 4 my team mate is up 25 minutes and is down a pawn but up in initiative. I then fail to defend my position correctly and lose the exchange in the process. Now i'm losing. My board 4 then offers a draw which is accepted. I cried on the inside. My position is systematically dismantled and my tricks are refuted, leaving me defeated and a lost match. Congratulations to Dorchester, we now have a very tight finish to the season.

As a fellow captain I felt

As a fellow captain I felt big time for Daniel, why does being captain have to be so difficult. All to play for.

David Aldwinckle

For the record - not several

For the record - not several significant mistakes on Board 1 - just one - of the very first magnitude!
