Excellent games on all boards with everyone bring tested. The standard of chess in the Bacchus this year is fantastic with lots of solid play and interesting positions. It's great to see so many new players managing to get competitive games where it's otherwise just one or two spare reserve spaces in higher teams. Well done to all players, each game could have gone either way. Thanks to Mike Jay for getting the Ringwood team sorted and keeping everyone updated.

Well contested match involving next generation of league players

Thoroughly endorse Tarik's comments above. Bacchus has moved on successfully this year, with the emphasis on taking part regularly in matches and getting experience. I also think the shared goal of wanting to see juniors, and also new adult members, get a chance to play often has brought the 3 participating clubs of Southbourne, Poole and Ringwood closer together. As Tarik says, it was an interesting and close match - and of a high standard. Young Matt on board 4 for Ringwood established a good early position, but unfortunately turned down the best move of a queen exchange and Sev marked his Poole debut with a win. Elsewhere there were good wins for Poole's Angus and Dragos and Liam got a hard earned point for Ringwood in the last game to finish. Julian has just joined Ringwood, so was playing his first match. Some of the Poole players have also taken part in B&D 5 this season and that extra match experience may have been a difference between the teams. In any event, Ringwood will also be considering a team in B&D 5 next season. Hopefully both clubs would enter Bacchus again to continue the successful process of developing new members and, as Tarik rightly says, giving regular match play rather than occasional reserve games. With many thanks to Tarik and the Poole club for being so welcoming and making it such a pleasant evening.
