Another hard fought draw with our friends from Ringwood. We tried to switch things up a bit by putting Rob on board 1 at the time he held the edge with the ratings, he delivered with a hard fought draw with Martin. I was paired with Ringwood’s talented junior post match analysis confirmed we were both happy with a draw. Rob was beaten on board 4 and Tim edged out Malcolm on board 3 so honours shared. Probably a fair result. Best to all RU

A busy night at Highcliffe

A busy night at Highcliffe with two matches on. Julian got Ringwood off to a winning start and I added another half point with a quickish draw with Rob Halse. The other two games lasted a lot longer and were tightly fought. Next to finish was Richard and Hugo where, in my opinion at least, black had an extra pawn but it was isolated and doubled and Richard had enough initiative to compensate. Both players found some good moves to maintain the balance and a draw was eventually agreed. That left the score 2 to 1 to Ringwood but Tim always seemed to have the better of his game against Malcolm who eventually sacrificed a minor piece for a couple of pawns. A good try but it never felt like quite enough and Tim had a winning position when Malcolm's time ran out and the match ended a draw.
