The Goodall Cup was presented to Broadstairs Chess Club in memory of William Fred Goodall (1874-1954), long serving Broadstairs Club Secretary who died 11 December 1954. Mr Goodall, apprenticed in Louth, Lincolnshire, became a master printer. He moved to Broadstairs about 1900 and had a print shop at 38 York Street, Broadstairs. He provided stationery for the Club and belonged to a French Masonic Lodge.
