Hi, A tough match that we somehow turning round in the last 30 minutes of play. We were one down after Graham blundered in a reasonably equal position and his opponent finished it off clinically. Two down after Hugo opponent played well to gradually improve his position till Hugo had to resign. Peter then managed to turn round his position to record a win on board one. From the analysis, Steven was better and missed a win. Richard by this time had turned around being a piece for 2 pawn down to having the same number of pieces ands lots of spare pawns. That left me and Jamie with the score 2-2. We had played a fairly typical KID - me as black trying to convince myself and Jamie I had an attack on the king side and Jamie demonstrating good defence to show that I didn't really. In the end I managed a win when Jamie mis-stepped in serious time trouble. A pleasure to welcome Basingstoke for was an excellent night of fighting chess and we are already looking forward to more of the same in the return! (Hugo Melling (ECF code 359723E) is a P grade. I estimated a local grade of 1700 for him now, and he will soon have an acceptable ECF grade of close to that value.
