A very closely contested match with Winchester losing by the smallest margin. The home team started well with a 13 move win by Iwan in a complicated opening, where I presume Doug went wrong? The other games took a lot longer to complete and Daniel Pugh struck back for Winchester to level the match. Eric and Simon had a hard fought draw and I managed to win one pawn and then another against Mike. This left a double Bishop ending but Mike threw in the towel when I was able to exchange one of the Bishops and started to push my pawns. This left Dave Holmes and Lukasz battling out in another complicated game, where Dave won the exchange but Lukasz had extra advanced pawns. I missed the end, but Dave probably had the better position, but not a lot of time. I think he was living on the increment as we were using the 80 + 10 seconds time control, rather than the 90 mins for all moves. With this in mind the game was drawn which meant we won 3 - 2. Many thanks to Winchester for the match which was played in great spirit - we look forward to the return fixture.
