Our thanks to the Soton B team for turning out on a foul evening. It was also a tough match for Ringwood despite the significant grading differences. Gillian and Kenny's game was first to finish which was close until an error from White allowed Ringwood to go one up. On board 5 a similar situation arose with Paul making a fatal error which weakened his back rank and allowed Russ to win. Martin and Kevin decided to share the point - a great result for the former. The match rested on the results on boards one and two. Peter was probably a little better at one stage but Robin suceeded in bringing his Rook and Queen to Whites first rank allowing a draw by three fold repetition. On board one Bruce sacrificed a piece for what looked like a winning attack but Diogo defended well and was probably better in the final position a piece for a couple of pawns up. The squares around Whites King looked rather "airy" and I assume that is why a draw was agreed. An entertaining match if not for the non-playing Captain. Pete Donaldson I agree the results entered by Pete Donaldson. It was bound to be a tough match for us, as we were outgraded on all boards, but Diogo, Robin and Kevin did very well to get draws.
