Despite the final result, most of the games were in the balance until the late stages. The one exception was board 3, where Ben was a pawn up from the opening, and then had a nice queen sacrifice leading to mate. Next to finish was board 2. Hambel had a lot of pressure against Paul's king, but Paul was able to trade pieces off and gain an advanced passed pawn in a queen and bishop ending that proved decisive. Martin and Jim had a very positional game that ended with a draw by repetition. The final game was decided by Oleg having a passed d-pawn. Whilst Carl was able to blockade this well, Oleg slowly improved his position until he was able to invade with his rook at which point he could not be stopped from winning material and, very soon after, the game.
