The match was a lot closer than the score suggests. My game was a wild Alien Gambit, I had the edge initially but a wide open King means a tricky path to navigate. Max exploited this, I had to give back the piece, and eventually we petered out to a draw. Did not see much of the other games, except at the end. James and Phil had a tense battle in a Birds Opening, Phil had to keep it tight and managed to get a draw from the position. Hambel's game turned on Jayar missing a potential perpetual escape, and ended up losing. Meanwhile on Board 1, Jim and Daniel went right down the wire. Jim miscalculating in the middle game to be down in material, but with some compensation, which in the end due to time pressure turned into a winning endgame when Daniel's flag dropped.
