Poulton newcomer Andy Lane had a good game against John Regan, helped by John giving him a piece early on. But the more experienced John prevailed in the end. Dave was disappointed to lose to Pat, having done well with the White pieces lately. Paul Worsley drew with Bob Tinton, so the match was already lost when Paul Fearnhead overcame Colin Wilks in what had been a very close contest.
