Boards 1 and 2 saw 2 contrasting center counters or should I say Scandinavians....Phil played very solidly with the Qa5 version against me and after Phil repelled an early king side attack we ended up in an equal bishop v knight ending... Board 2 saw Jim 0-0-0 early which always leads to very complicated play and won in 16 moves.. felt for Danny - that line is horrible if you don't know it......I remember losing horribly to Ali Janoobi in the same line Phil had pressure all the way v Norman and eventually broke through. Hambel and Sean was a Caro Kann that surprisingly opened up but after exchanges it was equal and they had an early night. Enjoyed the match and thanks to Phil and Morecambe for an enjoyable evening.
