Lytham 2 came across an in form Preston 4: On Board 1 Colin Walker came up against a theoretical line in the Sicilian and eventually gained the upper hand but unfortunately lost on time. On Board 2 Danny had a lot of pressure in a QGD but Phil defended sufficiently well to earn a draw but in a final twist he rejected the draw in the hope of tying the match, immediately went worse, and then eventually escaped with a draw (which was all Preston 4 needed at that time); On Board 3 Dave Aspinall came under attack from Seb's heavy pieces and eventually succumbed; on Board 4 the last minute stand-in, Pat Coleman, displayed a lot of resilience eventually going a piece up and winning the game giving the Lytham side some hope for a time.
