Lytham won on board count, in spite of a terrific fight from 6-man Morecambe.... Board 1: last to finish, Phil couldn't quite save the game and the match in a tricky endgame with knight + 3 pawns versus knight + 4 pawns. Paul patiently used his extra outside pawn and time advantage to win the final point and the match for Lytham. Boards 2 & 4 were unfortunately defaulted by Morecambe. Board 3: Danny never let slip the initiative from the opening to win easily. Board 5: Alan won a pawn, but Peter kept the queens on and with a wide open board secured a draw by three-fold repetition. Board 6: John surprised Dave with an unusual move early in the opening: "Never seen that before!", said Dave after the game, to which John - quick as a flash - replied, "Yes, you have, I played it against you 40 years ago!" Board 7: Sean won a pawn and held onto it to take the point as all the pieces eventually went back into the box. Board 8: first to finish, Darren and Andre agreed a draw after neither side could claim an advantage out of the opening.

Thankyou

Thankyou for your match summary Colin and thankyou Lytham for a really good match, it's a shame two of our players couldn't make it as we did expect them to arrive; hence defaulting on boards 2 and 4. Thought your board 8 comments were a little unfair on Darren who was forced into a move repetition, in retrospect I should have looked for a more fruitful alternative. All the best in the final Lytham!
