Honours eventually even
First to finish were Jacob and Graham, which has looked about even until Graham missed a tactical point and was a piece for a pawn down. He hung on for a while but Jacob made no mistake.
Len and Martin had quite a dynamic middlegame. I only glanced at the board a couple of time but it always seemed to be a bit easier for Len. I can't say more than that except that Len prevailed. So Southbourne were 2-0 up.
Hugo had an extra (doubled) pawn in a rook ending which was presumably drawn with best play. Eventually Hugo managed to exchange the doubled pawn to get a winning position.
So it was now 2-1 and really should have been 3-1 as Finn had played better than me in the middlegame to arrive at a winning endgame. However, there were a few tricks left and luckily I managed to turn the tables to square the match.
Thanks to Southbourne for an entertaining evening of chess and welcome refreshments.
Southbourne B v Ringwood A
Well done to both teams for a hard fought draw. Well done to my opponent Hugo in playing a solid Tartakower caro-kann.
