An early draw on board 4 and then a win for Weymouth on board 1 left boards 2 and 3 to play proper long games. Board 2 looked very drawn but Chris Leeson was reluctant to agree whilst his colleague Steve Blake was a pawn down but with a strong position. Eventually board 2 did agree a draw but the position on board 3 was heading into significant complications. The offer of a draw was declined as it would have given Weymouth the match. Every attacking thrust from Steve was met with strong defence. With both players having only the odd minute on the clock a blunder was likely to decide matters and Steve forgot he had to make a move and lost on time.
