Comment for organiser

John and his team from Wimborne (the reigning champions!) were so keen that they arrived for this fixture before the Weymouth team was complete. The teams eventually kicked off about 10 minutes late and straight away after about 7 or 8 moves Steve on board 3 managed to leave a piece en prise; so Weymouth were up against it from the off! However Steve gamely played on and the first game to finish was Chris and Peter on board 2, old adversaries who cancelled each other out and settled for a draw. With Steve losing I knew that I would probably have to win; especially as Geoff was being badly mauled by Nathan's pieces on the king side; eventually leading to a nice mate in the corner; nice finish Nathaniel! So that left Steve and I still at the board; Steve hoping for a swindle and me managing to win a pawn; still harbouring hopes of a miracle match result. John, my opponent then played right into my hands by using up a lot of time trying to get some compensation for the pawn, and in the end he felt obliged to go down fighting by sacricing a knight for a pawn and getting some active piece play around my kingside. However; he was now having to play quickly so all I had to do was stay relaxed and not make any silly errors. Stuart finally finshed Steve off on board 3; almost exactly as John's flag fell; so 1.5-2.5 was the final result in Wimborne's favour..................well played!! John left a happy man, as not only had they beaten us; Leicester City had also beaten West Ham 3-1.
