Home Win
Yeovil arrived cheerfully despite their one & a quarter hour drive - and seemed just as cheerful as they left despite losing 3 - 1 plus a long drive home. B3 finished first after white attacked on the Q side, giving up the exchange for threats & a passed A pawn, but black counterattacked strongly to win. Next was B4, where black won a pawn in the centre & also gave up the exchange for better pawn formation leaving white cramped with difficulty in freeing his pieces, & pleased that his offer of a draw was accepted. B2 was also drawn making it 2 - 1 to Ringwood. On B1 black, facing a much stronger opponent, did well out of the opening, but then lost a piece for 2 pawns with his Q in danger of being trapped in mid board; however, white somehow missed his way after which black's active pieces prevailed as white's time trickled away.......Thank you Yeovil for a sporting & hard fought evening.
The last time I played against Yeovil it was again as black for the then Ilminster club in the Somerset league, & that game was a draw as well - on 7th March 1959! But you don't really want to know that, do you?
Yeovil's first ever match at Ringwood
An enjoyable evening for our first venture to Ringwood - despite losing!. Very amicable hosts. Nice venue. Easy to find. The long journey wasn't too bad due to the easy roads (A37/A31). Looking forward to our next encounter, when of course Yeovil will be victorious! :)
