The Kent County Chess Association organises competitive chess for 16 clubs in metropolitan and wider Kent

    It is a member of the Southern Counties Chess Union (S.C.C.U) and is affiliated to the English Chess Federation (E.C.F.)
      The KCCA runs 7 competitions for all degrees of playing strength. These are:-
    • County Cup – an open competition for teams of 6 in which there are no rating limits.
    • Lewis Cup – teams of 6 with an average rating limit per team of 2000. Min player rating 1600
    • Stevenson Cup – teams of 6 with an average rating limit of 1850. Min rating 1450 each player
    • En Passant Cup – teams of 6 with an average rating limit of 1750. Min rating 1350 each player
    • Harvey Cup – teams of 6 with an average rating limit of 1600. Min rating 1200 each player
    • Tom Fuller Cup – teams of 4 with an average rating limit of 1500. Min rating 1100 each player and no player to be rated above 1750
    • Intro Cup – teams of 4 with an average rating limit of 1400. Min rating 1000 each player and no player to be rated above 1600

    During the preliminary rounds to facilitate travel the clubs are divided into 2 areas, Metropolitan and Mid/East Kent. The preliminary rounds are played between September and March. The top 2 teams in each tournament then play semi-finals against the winners and runners-up in the other area. The winners of the semi-finals then play in finals which are usually played in May at an agreed venue.
