An equally graded contest turned out to be not so equal for the visitors. Two early wins on top two boards sent Chedd on their way to victory. Crewe's only success came on bd 4 to pull one back. The bd 3 and 5 games lasted a full hour longer before the board 5 game went the host's way after it looked more promising for Crewe. On bd 3 Neville appeared to have all the play but could not break down Roger's stubborn defence to finish finally with a draw.
