Paul appeared to be a piece up against Steve, and duly secured his victory, the only game won by Poulton in 2 matches against a Leyland team stronger than in previous seasons. On top board Christian and Bill had a tense battle involving queens and rooks, and it was Christian who failed to allow for one particular possibility after a check. Kevin and David reached a drawish position, and eventually this was agreed. Warren seemed to have good chances, but Ken played well tactically to achieve his win.
