With the start of the season upon us, can I remind all players that they are required to have a valid and current ECF membership. Can all players please ensure they have renewed their ECF membership if it has expired.

Where a player is ungraded or has a ECF "P" grade and they are selected to play in a grade limited competition:
- The captain who selects them must contact the relevant controller to be allocated an interim local grade for the purposes of that competition. This must be done before the player plays in that competition.
- If, at any point during the season, the player's grade changes to a standard "K" grade, then that "K" grade will become the player's grade for the purposes of grade limited competitions. That grade will be the players grade from the date it is published by the ECF until the end of the season.

Please note that, from next season, playing under time increments has now been extended to Division 3, the Dave Welch League (7200) and the John Ripley Handicap. The actual time increment has changed also to 75 minutes plus 15 seconds.

The Merseyside Chess Association Committee have made the following decisions, which will be applicable to season 2024/2025:
- The cumulative grading total for the 6000 League shall be increased to 6200
- The 6000 League (referred to above) will be renamed the John Davis League
- The 7200 League will be renamed the Dave Welch League
