A good close match
As always, our matches v Wimborne A are very competitive and this was no exception.
Finn appeared to overlook a tactic on board 4 and despite trying to mix things up, Eddie defended well to win the game. Allan was generating a possible dangerous attack against James on the kingside but there was nothing obvious and he seemed to have some dark squared weaknesses. A draw was agreed when perhaps James was better. Russ had played the opening well and was 2 pawns up with Ian only having little compensation but then, Russ overlooked a tactic which won Ian the exchange and a pawn and Russ looked like he might lose. This meant I had to try and win my game in a quiet position. Luckily for me, Bill allowed me to create some play with my Queen infiltrating his position and I had just enough to win. With the match score level, Russ managed to win the exchange back and hold a R + P ending a pawn down.
Despite chances for both teams, a draw seemed to be about the right result. We look forward to the return match.
