First to finish was board 1 with a quick draw. Next to finish was board 5 where Richard's tactical flair proved decisive. I was next to finish on the white side of a Caro-Kann. My opponent had defended well, but in my opinion the position we reached is much easier to play for white than his opponent. I'm yet to let an engine lose on the game so might be back to edit that comment! In the end a king-side attack ended the game.
At this point we would at least draw the match and in the two remaining games, we looked ok to good. Graham decided the match with a draw leaving Dave's to apply pressure against Fraser's position. This eventually paid off when, with both players low on time, Fraser blundered allowing Dave to complete a 4-1 victory.
A pleasure to welcome the Southampton team and I'm sure they will be looking for revenge in the return fixture at their place!
