A close match with all the games being hard fought.
I did not see much of board five, but it seems Philip's Queen was trapped and this was the first game to finish, with Southampton taking an early lead.
When I looked at board one both players had taken their opponents Rook and a1 and h8 with a Knight. I had no idea what was going on. In the end Iwan came out on top.
On board two both players used a lot of time in a complex opening, a draw was agreed in the mutual time scramble.
On board three a King's Indian opening was played and White slightly overextended and Black won a pawn. A positional squeeze followed although both players dropped below 5 minutes. Finally Black won a Bishop on top of a couple more pawns and Dave resigned.
Board four was another game which reached a time scramble. White had sacrificed a pawn in the opening, but Black seemed to have the better of the game, but not enough to win.
