Weymouth came into this match knowing that they had to win to keep up the pressure for the title. Dorchester B came into this match having lost all previous matches this season, so their pride was at stake and therefore only a win would do for both teams! Board one was the first to finish after less than 20 moves; with Jon miscalculating and having to concede the draw. Board 2 saw a minor piece ending, knight and pawns against a bishop and pawns, and with no clear win for either Chris or John a draw was agreed. This meant that Steve and I, on Boards 3 and 4, had to play on and try to squeeze a win from one of these games. Thankfully for us Simon unfortunately left a rook en prise in a rook and minor piece endgame, where Simon had the edge, and he immediately resigned in frustration. So a draw was all that I needed on board 4 and I duly offered it to Steve who accepted as I could force perpetual check in a queen and pawns ending.............phew.........a tight match but a good result for us!! Thanks for a goofd fight Dorchester...............you don't deserve to be winless and hopefully you'll get a positive result before the end of the season.....................and so to our final game against the league leaders Wimborne B............with all to play for.
