Rockwater Branksome is a lovely venue to play a chess match. Right on the beach!

Poole initiatially appeared to be missing its board 3 player, Ellis, which resulted in many of its players moving up a board but then, as if by magic, Ellis appeared! After a bit careful manoeuvring off the board, as some matches had already started, Tarik found himself playing John, the Southbourne reserve player, on bottom board!

It was a very close match. Poole were first off the blocks with a quick win on board 11. Southbourne then clocked up some middle / lower order wins to take a 4 - 2 lead, but Poole pegged this back to 5 - 5 following wins on boards 1, 2 & 9 and Southbourne winning on board 5. It was left to the golden generation (combined age in excess of 175 years!) in a close match encounter on board 6 to decide the tie with Southbourne just sneaking it!

Thank you to the Poole Chess Club for the kind hospitality and good luck in your remaining matches.
