The extending of invitations to teams eligible to play in the London Banks League was hoped to give rise to increased entries. But, for the fourth season in a row, just two teams lined up to do battle, one Insurance team, ABI/Zurich, and on Banks team, HSBC. The format was therefore one at which we now have plenty of practice: all members of each team play all members of the opposing team, double round. A time limit of 8 minutes per clock per game was chosen.
Play got under way with all players present, which was something of a novelty (new readers visit Frost-Wilmots 1998/99 and 1999/2000).
