RBS/Americans, winners of the Combined League last season, suffered a late withdrawal which they could not replace and so attended with only three players. They are to be commended for doing so and, though on a hiding to nothing, competed with good spirit. In the first cycle (rounds 1-3), they took their default in time-honoured fashion on the bottom board, but for the second cycle (rounds 4-6) were allowed transfer their board three to board four. This meant that instead of the board four players of the other teams getting only four games, boards four and five of the other teams each got five games.
